Lars Hauglie 5/14/57 - 3/20/11

Lars Hauglie, 53, died at his Monrovia home March 20, 2011, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Lars was born May 14, 1957, in Flint, MI, a son of Ronald and Kathryn Hauglie. He moved to San Diego with his mother and siblings in 1968 and graduated from Kearny High School in 1975.  After attending San Diego Mesa College he graduated from UCLA Film School in 1981. Lars was employed by UCLA and also worked on the sets of many films  doing whatever was needed.  He honed his skills as a screenwriter, second unit director, and even editor over a 25 year period. He worked primarily with director and screenwriter Jeffrey Obrow (The Kindred, Bram Stoker's Legend of the Mummy, They Are Among Us), but also with actor/director John Cassavetes (The Haircut).
Lars's wide range of interests included scuba diving, funiture making and animal rescue.  He had a very low key, but intelligent sense of humor, which affected those who knew him well in a positive way. Even through his illness he retained his sense of humor. Lars was blessed to be cared for at home by Mr. Eddie French and Tom Gorman. Lars was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother, Kurt Hauglie; sister, Sally Robinson, her husband, Jody; nephew, Parker Robinson; adored aunt, Lou-Anne Keith; wife, Caroline Collins; dear neighbors Virgie and Dee Cesena; several uncles, aunts, cousins and many cherished friends.  Lars will be missed very much by those who knew and loved him. There will be a gathering of friends at a future date.  In the meantime, see a movie in his honor.
